In an Irish – American family, St. Patrick’s Day is a pretty big deal. A couple of years ago, we celebrated in Chicago on an impromptu visit since St. Patrick’s Day fell on a Saturday!! It will be a while before we are able to do that again.
You can see the weather was BEAUTIFUL that year. With just a couple of weeks to go, that would be overly optimistic to hope to wear shorts this year!
One year, I made an Irish Murder Mystery Dinner – (I’ll have to see what I can do to post that if I get time)
Some years, we have been a little more formal and had a nice sit down dinner with family.
I cook Irish food all year long, so deciding what to make for St. Patricks Day is a challenge. I’ll post some of my Irish recipes here (and update them as I come across more photos or as I try new things) hopefully in time if you find one you would like to use for your own get together. My thoughts as of now is that we will just go with a formal dinner on Sunday (since St. P is on Monday this year and that just doesn’t work for us who have to work all week!)
Check out recipes for Corned Beef and Potato, Bacon, Green Bean Medley; Cottage Pie; Loaded baked Potato Soup, Reuben’s Cousin the Rachel and Tailgater Tater Salad~ all under What’s Cooking in the Mitten!!
After much deliberation, I saw a friend post about her recent Mash-tini Bar (mashed potato bar) and it hit me – we are doing an Irish themed Mash-tini Bar for St. Patrick’s Day. I searched for suggestions (no sense re-inventing the wheel) but was disappointed to see that there are no suggestions out there for “Irish” themed or “St. Patrick’s Day” Mash-tini themes. Here is my menu for our celebration (click the purple Mashtini link below). I cannot wait to post the pics for this one!!
